Wednesday, November 15, 2017 The Way of the Cross in Submitting to Authority: The Discipline of Submission, Part 12 of 12 (Inspired by Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster)

Good morning! Thank you for joining me today. God bless you as we pray together for our children! Wednesday, November 15, 2017 The Way of the Cross in Submitting to Authority: The Discipline of Submission, Part 12 of 12 (Inspired by Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster) Scripture: Romans 13:1-7 Submission to the Authorities 13 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.5 Therefo...

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it. Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him… Matthew 25:34-40 34  “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  35  For I was hungry, and you gave Me  something to eat; ...

Ephesians 6:1-4 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Proverbs 31:15-17 15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants.  16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.  17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. Luke 6:47-48 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. Tuesday, October 31, 2017 When Submission Isn’t Right: The Discipline of Submission, Part 4 (Inspired by Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster) Scripture: Acts 5: 29 We must obey God rather than men… Devotional: There is no doubt that we are called by the Lord to live a life of mutual submission one to another. However, as many wise men and women of God have reminded me over the years, we are at times expected to stand firm. We have the Bible to show us when submission is not right. When another God-created human is expecting us to walk against God’s plans, His Word, and His character, we are expected and called just like the believers in the early church to choose to lovingly resist. There is no witness in capitulating to the works of the flesh of others; there is no profit to the Kingdom in being a party to sin or willful disobedience to the Lord. There are going to be times when we need to resist even those closest to us—perhaps a spouse who is off base or...

Wednesday, October 25, 2017 The Wholeness in Submission: The Discipline of Submission, Part 1 (Inspired by Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster)

Wednesday, October 25, 2017 The Wholeness in Submission: The Discipline of Submission, Part 1 (Inspired by Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster) Scripture: Mark 8: 34 “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” Matt. 10: 39 “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it” From Celebration of Discipline: Self-denial does not mean the loss of our identity as some suppose. Without our identity we could not even be subject to each other. Did Jesus lose his identity when he set his face toward Golgotha? Did Peter lose his identity when he responded to Jesus’ cross-bearing command, “Follow me” (John 21: 19)? Did Paul lose his identity when he committed himself to the One who had said, “I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name” (Acts 9: 16)? Of course not. We know that the opposite was true. They found their identity in the act of self-denial. (Foster, Richard J.. ...
