Meditation Styles: Meditating On Scripture (Meditation, Part 7)
(Inspired by Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster)

Scripture:
Psalm 1:1-3
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.

Psalm 119:15-16
I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word.

Joshua 1:8
"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success…”

Psalm 77:12
I will meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds.

Psalm 145:5
On the glorious splendor of Your majesty And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.

Psalm 119:148
My eyes anticipate the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word.

Psalm 119:97
Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.

Devotional:
At long last it has arrived : the day when we get to talk about the ways to meditate! If you have borne with me this far, I am proud of you! I have been blessed and In my moments of honesty vulnerability a bit impatient with the learning on this discipline. The irony is that there is no microwave, drive-through answer when it comes to meditation, so as the Holy Spirit leads this time of study on the disciplines, let's let him slow cook us, Shall we?

The first form of meditation is the meditation on scripture. What scripture or idea has God been impressing upon you lately? For me it is the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Today, I commit to seeking scripture about the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Would you also join me, and seek one or two verses that you can focus on in a set aside time or times throughout the week? God is faithful to do a work in us as we practice this discipline.

Prayer:
Father, thank You that You are revealing to me a new aspect of Your character through teaching me about the disciplines of the faith. Today, I open my heart to receive the word that You would have me meditate on.  Help me not to skim over this, but to make the choice to receive from You as I meditate on scripture.

Intercession:
Today I lift up my children and I thank You, God, that You can also speak to me about them through Your Word and also speak to them through Your Word. Show me how to train them in this discipline as well so that they can have a richer and deeper relationship with You. (Take time to journal any new requests, or simply review what God has been impressing on you.)

I lift You up, Lord and thank You for who You are in our home and family I bless Your  Holy name and give you praise.

In Jesus name I pray, amen.
