Meditation Styles: Meditation Upon the Creation (Meditation, Part 9)
(Inspired by Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster)

Scripture:
Job 12:7-9 (ESV)
“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?”

Genesis 1:1 (NIV)
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Psalm 104:1-24 (ESV)
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;
What is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him?

Psalm 8:3-4 (NASB)
Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.

Psalm 111:2 (NIV)
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Devotional:
The next form of meditation is one that I love dearly. Taking the time to consider the beauty and wonder of God’s creation might be for me the easiest way to know His reality. What is your favorite way to experience nature? For my mom, a sunset connects her to God’s majesty. This is also one of my favorite ways to enjoy Him and connect with Him. I also have always loved studying and admiring His handiwork in reading about and discovering local plantlife. For others, a thoughtful appreciation of flowers, the ocean, the incredible formation of animals or people will bring them closer to understanding the awe-inspiring creativity of our God.

Take time today to find that place of connection. Go for a walk, stop and appreciate the ocean or a lake or stream close to you. Notice animals and take time to meditate on how incredible it is that God made them and formed them.  What about you? You are a precious, created treasure made on purpose by God.

God is amazing, and He made this creation because of His incredible love. Let’s go in to His wonderful creative power with our hearts and worship Him.

Prayer:
Lord, I praise You. You are the Creator God, and Your creation is the outworking of Your beauty and majesty. Today I ask for a deeper and fuller revelation of Who You are as I contemplate Your creation.

Intercession:
Thank You that You have formed and created my children by Your love and Your power. I ask that You would give me an intimate understanding of Your purposeful creation of them. (Lift needs, journal, make note of victories and progress.)

Bless You, Father. You are the One True God, and You have created all by Your mighty hand.

In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.
