Cry Out To Jesus
Scripture:
Mark 9:23-24
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
Matthew 17:20
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Hebrews 10:39
But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Hebrews 12:2
looking to Jesus, the founder and for we walk by faith, not by sight.
of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
2 Corinthians 4:18
as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 5:7
for we walk by faith, not by sight.
1 Corinthians 13:13
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Galatians 5:5-6
5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
1 John 4:7-8
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
Devotional:
I have a confession.
Teaching on faith is a little scary for me.
When I first returned to the Lord, I felt for several years as though I could never have enough faith, and that was why I was failing in life. I received so much good Bible teaching on faith, breaking down the beauty of His Word and desire for His children. However, I had a lens and filter of perfection, so whenever I read these words, I would “try” to have faith and try to “use” my faith to fix my problems and circumstances. I strove to become perfect and make changes in my life and personality, personal circumstances, and past.
As I press on in the faith, God is faithful to show me how far I have come since then. As a mom, when I read about the man who came to Jesus for healing for his afflicted son, I completely relate to his cry to Jesus.
Lord, Help my unbelief.
But faith is not dependent on me, it is dependent on Jesus. He founded my faith, and He will perfect it. I received an amazing teaching from my former pastor, Brian Zahnd of Word of Life Church (https://brianzahnd.com/ ) about the nature of the mustard seed. When the seed is planted, though it is small it grows exponentially larger and overtakes the other plants. By this kind of growing and flourishing faith we can by the power of God begin to tap into His desire to change and grow us into His kingdom people. He desires that we make an impact in this fallen world for His kingdom, and that we have wholeness and beauty. It isn’t that I need to grasp to have more faith, and that the reason I struggle is because I don’t even have faith the size of a mustard seed. In truth, then and now it is true that I am in the process, and I need to allow the love of Jesus to grow faith in me and allow it to overtake me.
Faith works by love.
Love is from God. Anyone who loves is born of God, and knows God.
How do I get faith? By receiving love. The love of God. I love because He first loved me (1 John 4:19). This does not begin with me. Jesus started it, He will finish it. He began the work, He will complete it (Philippians 1:6).
Lord, help my unbelief! This cry is a prayer that He will answer. No matter the circumstances, no matter where in the journey we are with our own hearts and with the circumstances of our children, He will help. He will shed His love abroad continually in our hearts so that we can be filled with that growing faith. We can continue to allow seeds of faith to be planted and watered and grow to fill us so that He can truly work and transform our hearts and lives and the lives of our families.
Today, let’s plant one more seed of faith in our hearts. Cry out to Jesus, and He will meet you where you are. He desires to reach out to you!
Prayer:
Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief. You are the Creator of the Universe. My circumstances seem so difficult at times, but today I stand before You and recognize that my faith is enough because it comes from You.
I choose to cease striving to make things happen in my heart, home and family. I give this to You, and ask You to be the One to intervene. Teach us to walk out the challenges You have allowed with grace and wisdom. Heal broken hearts, minds and bodies in our family.
Intercession:
Take out your prayer journal/list on phone/open journaling document and either write a separate request for today or add to your list. Note the date. Spend time praying over each current concern in the life/lives of your child(ren). Ask God to give you faith as He works in each circumstance. Make note of answered prayer, and give Him glory!
Father, I lift You high today and give these needs to You. I take my hands off them and ask You to give me peace as I lay them at Your altar.
In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.
