The Beauty and Majesty of Jesus

Scripture:
Mark 9:2-3 (Luke 9:28-36, Matthew 17:1-8)
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.

Revelation 1:10-18
10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, 11 saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and,[f] “What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia:[g] to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”
12 Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. 14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; 15 His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; 16 He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. 17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me,[h] “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. 18 am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

Psalm 104:1-2
Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent.

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Philippians 2:6-8
who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Devotional:
As I contemplate the transfiguration of Jesus, I am moved to ponder His beauty. His majesty. His wonder. His glory.

In the mundane of our everyday, we can sometimes forget, like His disciples easily did, that though He was human on this earth He is deity. He is God. He is majestic, full of splendor, and full of power. Today, I want only one thing: To gaze upon that beauty. To bask in His glory. To let the wonder of His majesty pour out over me. Let us let the light of our Beautiful Savior shine deeply in our hearts today. He is lovely. He is glorious. He is wonderful. Bless You, Lord!

Prayer:
Lord, I worship You today. I come with no agenda, my heart bowed and my hands lifted to You. You are amazing, beautiful, wonderful, majestic. Thank You for humbling Yourself that I might have You living inside of me. Thank You for not rejecting the humbling of becoming a man, living inside an earthly body, to save us. Thank You for taking thirty years out of eternity to clothe your majesty with the mundane flesh of a man’s body. You are precious, Lord. You are incredible. What joy comes from basking in Your presence! You are beautiful. I worship You.

Intercession:
In your journal, in a list on your phone, or in a document on your computer pull out your prayer list for your child(ren). Pray over each listed concern. Add any new concerns to that list. Thank Jesus that He is God and He died for the sin in the heart(s) of your child(ren). Thank Him that He is capable and willing to heal. Write down any scripture references that He brings to Your heart and mind. Tape a new one to your dashboard, refrigerator, wallet, or mirror if you are ready. Read it aloud. Share it with your child. Encourage them daily that God is able to help them with their challenges.

In Jesus’ Name I give this day to You, God. I ask You, Jesus, to take the throne in this home.

In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.
